Courage Cards.

And why you should have some also.

Recently someone reached out for prayer. More than anything I wanted to affirm her and point her to the source that gives her strength. It reminded me of a friend who suggested I do something while I was going through a tough season. Friendship, belonging, and honestly knowing my worth was at the center of my struggle. She told me to get notecards and a small ring that is sold in office supply stores. On those notecards, I wrote scriptures that encouraged me. Reminders of who God said I was. I took my courage cards with me everywhere. Every time I felt fear, insecurity or uncertainty rise up, I picked a card and read it. Almost every time, my anxiety would subside as I read God’s word.

Some of my cards have:

Live like Jesus – “Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out for only our own interests, but take an interest in others too. You must have the same attitude that Jesus had.” Philippians 2: 3-5

Love my enemies– “Bless those who persecute you; Bless and do not curse.” Romans 12:14

Patience– “Patient endurance is what you need now so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that He has promised.” Hebrews 10:36

For my friends who may not be into scriptures, affirmations or quotes are also great ideas. You can also write them somewhere that you look at every day. On your bathroom mirror, cell phone home screen, or even in somewhere in your car. According to https://positivepsychology.com, there is MRI evidence suggesting that certain neural pathways are increased when people practice self-affirmation tasks. Even when you may not completely agree with these statements or scriptures, your brain does.

“I am strong”

“I am loved”

“All of our dreams can come true- if we have the courage to pursue them.” Walt Disney

“In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity.” Albert Einstein

“Keep smiling, because life is a beautiful thing and there’s so much to smile about.” Marilyn Monroe

Life is short, live it.

I may not be the most confident person and struggle with the best of them, but thankful for tools that help me to be a better version of myself. Our days are filled with uncertainty and having something that keeps me grounded in the word of God makes a huge difference. His word is always true and constant. Visual reminders that I am not alone and that on the other side of the hard stuff….is usually something pretty amazing.

In a world that seems uneasy most days, the one thing we do know is God’s love for his children. Praying this tool and reminder helps you to also gain confidence in God and yourself. I would love to know if you have any favorite scriptures, affirmations, or quotes that help keep you inspired and grounded.

Have a wonderful week, my friends.
